Waste collection vehicles adapted to the use of plastics as packaging. Plastic was lighter but the quantity of packaging increased. Civic amenity sites were established in 1967 which offered residents an alternative to kerbside waste collections. Rising car and home ownership made them a popular choice, but they never replaced kerbside collections.
